Dining is a standout part of the Sibaya Lodge experience, thanks to direct access to the impressive culinary offering at Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom. Home to some of Durban’s most popular restaurants, the complex caters to every taste, from relaxed coffee stops to refined, luxury dining, making it ideal for both dedicated food lovers and casual diners.
Our most memorable dining experience took place at the Royal Court Restaurant, where guests of the lux Royal Hotel can also enjoy breakfast. From the moment you step inside, the restaurant exudes African-inspired elegance, blending warmth, sophistication, and attentive service in a beautifully designed setting.
Dinner was exceptional. We enjoyed richly flavoured, slow-cooked lamb shank, plump and briny mussels, and a perfectly roasted rack of lamb, each dish thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. Paired with a smooth bottle of wine, the meal was elevated by the atmosphere; soft lighting, gentle music, and the low hum of conversation creating a relaxed yet refined dining experience.
After dinner, we returned to our balcony, music playing quietly in the background, taking in the ocean breeze while unwinding and reflecting on the evening, the perfect end to a perfect night.
The following morning, breakfast offered a generous buffet with a wide selection of options. For me, the standout was the Durban mutton sausage, a comforting, nostalgic flavour that instantly transported me back to childhood.
Before departing, we were treated to a special and unexpected highlight, which was a personal sit-down with Executive Chef Zakhele Ndlozi at Royal Court. A true culinary artist, Chef Zakhele showcased his creativity and precision through an unforgettable tasting experience. Highlights included a beautifully crafted sushi platter, a chai-infused tiramisu, and a rich dark chocolate mousse finished with white chocolate ganache. Each dish was a celebration of flavour, balance, and craftsmanship, perfectly complemented by chilled mimosas and the warm generosity of an exceptional chef.
Beyond Royal Court, Sibaya offers an excellent variety of restaurants and bars:
Thava Indian Restaurant – Bold South and North Indian dishes, tandoor specialities, and iconic Durban-inspired flavours
Krakatoa Lounge (18+) – A stylish restaurant and bar with large screens for live sports
Vida e Caffè – Ideal for coffee lovers and light meals, inspired by Portuguese street cafés
Beira Alta Restaurant – Traditional Portuguese cuisine with African influences
Spur Steak Ranches – A relaxed, family-friendly South African steakhouse
With such a wide choice of dining experiences, staying on a room-only basis offers guests complete flexibility while ensuring exceptional food is always close at hand.
